Meet David Brooks Sr. CIS®

As the founder and president of Retire SMART, David Brooks Sr. is an Investment Adviser Representative (IAR) who is focused on helping clients work toward their retirement dreams through a well-thought-out strategy for retirement income.

David got his start in the industry in 1999 and has worked for several financial services firms. He truly enjoys helping retirees and pre-retirees develop retirement income plans that meet their needs, and his business philosophy is a simple one: Do the right thing for the right reason at the right time.

David has passed the Series 63, 65 and 66 securities exams and holds life and health insurance licenses in Iowa, Nebraska and South Carolina. He has earned the Certified Income Specialist® (CIS®) designation. David practices as a fiduciary agent, which means he must always work in his clients’ best interest. David has been published or quoted in The Wall Street Journal and Forbes. He also hosts “Retire SMART with David Brooks” weekly on 1110 KFAB, 1290 KOIL, and 94.5/1420 Boomer.

David and his wife, Melissa, have been married for more than 25 years. They have two sons, Drew and Noah, plus Nixon, a Lab who keeps their household active. David has coached youth athletics for several seasons and has volunteered for local charities. He has served on the board of directors for The Children’s Hunger Project, the American Red Cross and the March of Dimes.

In his free time, David enjoys serving in his church’s production ministry in addition to golfing and traveling.

Mike SchudelCFP®, CLU®, ChFC®, CASL, CAS, CFSFinancial Advisor

Mike Schudel found his passion helping people work toward their retirement goals through insurance, income and tax planning. He enjoys translating complex concepts as he helps clients pursue their ideal lifestyle.

Mike has a bachelor’s degree in history and went on to earn his Juris Doctor to better understand income tax planning, estate planning, securities regulation and small-business taxation in preparation for a career in financial planning.

Mike has earned a number of financial services designations, including CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional, Chartered Life Underwriter®, Chartered Financial Consultant®, Chartered Advisor for Senior Living, Certified Annuity Specialist and Certified Fund Specialist.

In his free time, Mike enjoys exercising, automobiles and spending time with his two dogs. As a Boy Scout, he attained the rank of Eagle Scout. He’s a member of Divine Shepherd Church.


Alicia SchoonClient Relations

When you call Retire SMART, Alicia will likely be the voice on the other end. Passionate about going above and beyond for our clients, she is responsible for scheduling appointments and completing and processing paperwork, among other duties. Alicia holds life and annuity insurance licenses.


Lyndsay StednitzClient Relations

Lyndsay helps clients process applications and works with them one-on-one to answer their questions.

Lyndsay holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business management. She enjoys working in the service industry and guiding people in a positive direction.

Away from the office, Lyndsay enjoys music, being with friends and going on vacation. She and her husband live in Benson, Nebraska, with their two cats.


LECIA MIZENERDirector of Operations

Lecia uses her nearly 20 years of experience as an operations manager to make sure our firm runs smoothly. She has a reputation for going above and beyond for clients and prides herself on being an approachable leader who builds lasting relationships while driving powerful results.

Lecia has a Bachelor of Science in economics from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and a Master of Business Administration from Bellevue University. She is a lifelong learner who enjoys finding new ways to streamline processes and get things done.

Lecia lives in Bellevue with her husband, Michael, son Josh, dog Luna and cat Stoli. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, listening to live music, reading, crafting and entertaining. She is also active with a local animal rescue group and adopted a French bulldog last year from the organization.


Larry WilleClient Relations

A business-oriented numbers guy — and professional golfer — Larry helps prepare detailed financial strategies for our clients. He truly enjoys helping clients to realize and, often, exceed their financial goals and dreams.

He also likes to apply his knowledge from business school to understand why some companies have longevity and make great investments, while others don’t.

Away from the office, Larry spends time with his kids and enjoys bowling and golfing. What’s more, he loves teaching the younger generation any chance he gets.


Dayne Lawyer Client Relations

Dayne is passionate about helping clients and tries her best to do so every day at Retire SMART. After exploring careers in elementary education and veterinary technology, she decided to enter the financial services industry and began a rewarding career assisting others through retirement.

Dayne holds her life and annuity licenses and graduated with an associate’s degree in applied science for veterinary technology.

At home, Dayne can be found enjoying the outdoors, traveling or working out. She loves spending quality time with her husband, two children and black Labrador retriever.


Chip MaxwellCommunity Liaison

Drawing on his experience as a local morning talk show host, Chip reaches out to new and existing clients to share how Retire SMART and their talented team of retirement specialists can help them build a confident retirement future.

Chip has a law degree from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln, a master of studies degree in American history from Oxford University and a bachelor’s degree in political science from Boston College. His previous professional experience includes hosting a daily morning show on Omaha’s News Talk 1420 KOTK-AM.

In his free time, Chip likes to spend time with his wife and seven children, and hit the bike trails several times a week.


Alex MurrayClient Relations

After initially pursuing a medical career, Alex realized that he enjoyed helping people more than he liked the science of medicine. This led him to the financial services industry, which he believes is the best way to positively impact someone’s life. In our office, Alex makes sure you are taken care of when you contact us.

Alex is working toward his finance degree at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He holds his life and annuities, sickness, accident, and health insurance licenses, and his goal is to become a financial advisor.

In his free time, he enjoys lifting weights, golfing and spending time with friends and family. As a Nebraska native, Alex enjoys watching Husker athletics.
