Meet David Brooks Sr.CIS®, CHRS®

As the founder and president of Retire SMART, David Brooks Sr. is an Investment Adviser Representative (IAR) who is focused on helping clients work toward their retirement dreams through a well-thought-out strategy for retirement income.

David got his start in the industry in 1999 and has worked for several financial services firms. He truly enjoys helping retirees and pre-retirees develop retirement income plans that meet their needs, and his business philosophy is a simple one: Do the right thing for the right reason at the right time.

David has passed the Series 63, 65 and 66 securities exams and holds life and health insurance licenses in Iowa, Nebraska and South Carolina. He has earned the Certified Income Specialist® (CIS®) and Certified Healthcare Reform Specialist® (CHRS®) designations. David has been published or quoted in The Wall Street Journal and Forbes. He also hosts “Retire SMART with David Brooks” weekly on Omaha’s 1420 AM/FM 94.5 The Answer.

David and his wife, Melissa, have been married for more than 25 years. They have two sons, Drew and Noah, plus Nixon, a Lab who keeps their household active. David has coached youth athletics for several seasons and has volunteered for local charities. He has served on the board of directors for The Children’s Hunger Project, the American Red Cross and the March of Dimes.

In his free time, David enjoys serving in his church’s production ministry in addition to golfing and traveling.

Alicia SchoonClient Relations: Administration

When you call Retire SMART, Alicia will likely be the voice on the other end. Passionate about going above and beyond for our clients, she is responsible for scheduling appointments and completing and processing paperwork, among other duties. Alicia holds life and annuity insurance licenses.


Katie WeisClient Relations: New Business

Contact Katie for your money movement tracking and other new business needs. Life and annuity insurance licensed in Nebraska, she helps our clients understand how the various pieces of their SMART plan work together.


Dalton HeimClient Relations

Dalton Heim uses his people skills and knowledge of the financial industry to help clients find the products that will help them live out their dream retirement.

Dalton got his start in 2016 in the banking industry, but after two years, he was ready for a change. That’s when he made the switch to Retire SMART. Here, he enjoys working with his co-workers to help provide top-notch customer service and client-focused retirement strategies.

Dalton has a degree in business management from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. He passed the Series 65 securities exam and holds life and annuity insurance licenses.

In his free time, Dalton enjoys soccer, golf, volleyball, softball and hitting the gym. He also loves to spend time with friends and family.


Lyndsay StednitzClient Representative

Lyndsay helps clients process applications and works with them one-on-one to answer their questions.

Lyndsay holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business management. She enjoys working in the service industry and guiding people in a positive direction.

Away from the office, Lyndsay enjoys music, being with friends and going on vacation. She and her husband live in Benson, Nebraska, with their two cats.


Victoria LemusClient Relations

With a strong background in customer service, Victoria recently joined Retire SMART to help manage our monthly workshops, events and the calendar.

Victoria is passionate about making people feel heard and getting them the information they need. She’s also committed to ensuring that clients are never left in the dark when it comes to planning for their financial future.

After studying psychology in college in California, Victoria moved with her fiancé to Omaha. Outside the office, Victoria enjoys photography, baking and other culinary pursuits. She also loves to spend time outdoors and recently picked up stand-up paddle boarding.

LECIA MIZENERDirector of Operations

Lecia uses her nearly 20 years of experience as an operations manager to make sure our firm runs smoothly. She has a reputation for going above and beyond for clients and prides herself on being an approachable leader who builds lasting relationships while driving powerful results.

Lecia has a Bachelor of Science in economics from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and a Master of Business Administration from Bellevue University. She is a lifelong learner who enjoys finding new ways to streamline processes and get things done.

Lecia lives in Bellevue with her husband, Michael, son Josh, dog Luna and cat Stoli. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, listening to live music, reading, crafting and entertaining. She is also active with a local animal rescue group and adopted a French bulldog last year from the organization.


Larry WilleClient Relations

A business-oriented numbers guy — and professional golfer — Larry helps prepare detailed financial strategies for our clients. He truly enjoys helping clients to realize and, often, exceed their financial goals and dreams.

He also likes to apply his knowledge from business school to understand why some companies have longevity and make great investments, while others don’t.

Away from the office, Larry spends time with his kids and enjoys bowling and golfing. What’s more, he loves teaching the younger generation any chance he gets.
